ch.31 summary
The students in Grants class was told during 12-3 in the afternoon they would have to be on there knees during the excution of Jefferson. Grant could not stop thinking about Jefferson. Grant went behind the church and thought of memories of him as a child and other children hitting homeruns in the game of ragball. Grant didn't know where he should be that day by being with Jefferson, leaving the quarter, or being with his students. He went and sat under a pecan tree waiting for someone to come and give him the news. Not to long after, Paul came to tell him what happened along with Jefferson's notebook that Jefferson wanted Grant to have. Paul said Jefferson was the stongest man in the room. Jefferson's last words was "Tell Nannan I walked." Paul told Grant how great of a teacher Grant was specially with the tansformation of Jefferson. Even though Grant didn't believe he was, he returned to the church crying.
